Ageing- good nutrition is one of the secrets of ageing gracefully. Eating well supports and contributes to physical and mental wellbeing.

  • there is an issue of genetic susceptibility

  • we can buffer disease and disability with increased physical activity and improved diet

  • the best eating plan is increased fresh vegetables and fruits and legumes- micronutrients

  • the idea is to fight free radicals with antioxidants, vit C, vit E, protein, calcium and vitamin D as free radicals encourage ageing. Different coloured fruits and vegetables are filled with antioxidants and phytocemicals that fight free radicals. The fiber in these will also help keep the bowels clean.

  • vit E – nuts and pecans and walnuts, lowering the risk of stroke

  • Omega 3-free radicals that help reduce build up of plaque and lower bp and help improve brain function and reduce pain in joints. Essential fatty acids also help to maintain the integrity of our cells, keeping our skin youthful

  • as we get older we need to be more diligent about healthy foods

  • choose whole foods over processed foods and sweets as this is the key to battle against disease and ageing

  • eating well keeps muscles, bones, organs and other body parts strong

  • adequate nourishment boosts immunity and provides resistance to illness and disease and quicker healing if disease strikes

  • adequate nourishment reduces risk of heart disease, stroke, hbp, type 2 diabetes, bone loss, cancer, anemia

  • we need to supply the brain with essential nutrients

  • we need protein to help maintain collagen and protein is also the building blocks of life and responsible for many enzyme activities within the body

  • improve hydration as loss of water can lead to urinary tract infections, constipation and even confusion. It also affect the look and feel of our skin. When we are hydrated we look and feel younger.
